Even when I go after a bike which I do not intend to ride, it still needs to be within my size range. So for me, size does matter (Hey now!). I would guess the same is true for a majority of the people who occasionally purchase bikes that we do not intend to ride (all 20 of us).
Richard Sach's Masi is on the upper end of my size limit, so I could ride it if I wanted too. However, if I were to own this bike, I would probably keep it just like e-Richie had it. Even as a repaint, the bike as a whole is unique. Like Mike Kone said, it is more than the sum of its parts. It has a distinguished provenance and a special identity and history that I would have been happy to preserve and perpetuate. I "get" the pleasure of ownership and stewardship. I also get the pleasure of riding a nice vintage lightweight, and for that I have other bikes.

If the hopeful owners intend to keep it as an unridden object of art, does it matter if the bike is/ is not the proper size? If the intention is to keep it unsullied, is the pool of bidders larger than for a bike that's been around the block a bit? Nothing wrong with keeping it as a wall hanger or throwing a leg over the saddle once in awhile, imo.
