Some months ago I bought one of Bob Elliot's NOS Taylor tandem frames. I've come to the conclusion that I will never get around to assembling this beauty, and it is a tad small for us..soooooo, it goes to a new owner.
I'm offering it to the list for the weekend. If, at the end of the weekend I don't hear from any serious buyers, I will move on to the 'Bay.
This tandem frame dates from about 1980. It's the Marathon model. A little more racy than the touring frames but still perfectly suited to touring. Fillet-brazed of oversized Reynolds 531 tandem tubing made special for the Taylors. Ovalized boob-tube. Beautiful british racing green paint. White double box-lining on all tubes. Deco graphics. Kit includes seat-posts (require clamps), headset, seat-tube and concentric clamp-bolts, and concentric bb insert. There may be other accessories (I haven't actually dismantled everything in the box). These I know of.
This is a true NOS piece: the frame is still in its paper wrapping, from the Taylor shop, with all the original packing. I just removed the paper in a couple of places to take pictures.
One of the best parts about this deal is the box! It's the original shipping carton from the Taylors, and on the inside top flap, one of the brothers wrote their signature greeting, in felt-pen: "Have a nice ride. Taylor Bros." This is a priceless touch..makes the box very collectible, and is one big reason why I have real trouble letting this one go...but it all goes together. Fun to have.
I have numerous photos you can see. If you're interested in them, just e-mail me and I'll send them.
Measurements:
Captain seat-tube c-t: 56cm Captain seat-tube c-c: 52.5cm Captain top-tube c-c: 57cm
Stoker seat-tube c-t: 54cm Stoker seat-tube c-c: 51.5cm Stoker top-tube c-c: 59.5cm
Note that on most Taylor Tandems the seat-tubes extend well beyond the top-tubes to make room for the seat-post clamps. Tandems don't need to fit perfectly in any case; the c-t seat-tube measurements reflect the sizing of a single bike of the same dimensions, more or less. Note that the mild discrepancy in the lengths of the two seat-tubes has to do with the fact that the stoker tube is somewhat slacker than the captain tube..
Price is $1700, shipped in the lower 48
Any questions, feel free to post me. I won't be free to respond until late Friday.
Thanks.
