Subject: [CR]keeping wheels tidy?

anybody got ideas on keeping wheels looking tidy long term.....my 1948 Semper and my R O Harrison track/path have very true wheels the problem is the spokes (double butted) have lost their nickel? plating , I have lasboriously cleaned and polished every spoke (72 on each machine) and due to lack of finger ends now would rather not do it again any time in the near future, I do not wish to get them re spoked due to both sets of wheels having original spokes(the Semper spokes have a little star on each spoke head). is there a product etc that can be used to keep surface rust at bay ?
