Good gracious, I hadn´t heard of that.

I just rang the former owner, and she said there was Shimano on her current racer, so she was positive it wasn´t that on the Renault, and

that it had a black rear derailleur, also it had been very expensive about 25 years ago, her husband had to save up for quite some time to be able to buy it... and that she had given the bike away only hours ago. Aarrgh.

Thanks for the info, anyway. The whole thing shows me to laugh more about my own mistakes, and not so much about other people´s perceived

ones.
