Okay, the weather is still looking nasty for Saturday, so here we go with change III. Sunday May 28 is designated as the alternate date for my Saturday 27 May CR Jersey shore Ride. The Sunday start time will be 1:30 p.m., all other details to stay the same. To avoid any possible screwups and missing anyone who wants to ride, I will ride both days unless Saturday is a monsoon and no one comes. The ride is so nice, we had to do it twice. So pick your day and come ride. There may be a bigger crowd on Sunday as some folks said Saturday was bad for them. Extra credit for anyone who rides twice. Pick your day, and we'll see you this weekend.

Well, I invited bad karma by answering my cell phone on a ride, and was rewarded by getting soaked on the 2nd half. Naturally I blame Mike Schmidt, who called to discuss Cirque arrangments, and ruined my feng shui.

Anyway, Mike also discussed my upcoming Saturday CR ride and said some folks hadn't seen the first announcment. So attached below is the info from the 1st announcement of my May 27 CR ride, 10:00am leaving from the Gibbs Hall parking lot at Fort Monmouth NJ. 25 miles, a few highway overpass sized hills, nice scenery, lunch afterwards at a local eatery, or we can send out for pizzas. Everyone is welcome, vintage steel encouraged but not mandatory. Already about 6 attendees, we need more for a good showing. BVVW, where are you guys? It's only 40-50 miles down here! See below for directions and contact phone #. Long range weather looks excellent, highs around 75 (wool jersey time!), partly cloudy, who could ask for anything more? Hope to see you there. Please RSVP so I know how many to expect.

1st announcement text:

Well, I missed my season opening Sandy Hook ride back in March for reasons that seemed important back then, but which I now can't even recall, showing that you should never put off a good bike ride. So how about a New Jersey Shore ride on Memorial day weekend? Sandy Hook will be too busy now for good riding, but there's lots of fine routes in these parts. And I know doing this on a holiday weekend will reduce potential attendees, but there aren't many other do-able days, and Cirque will be upon us soon. Besides, we should be done by 1:00 p.m., plenty of time to get home for family fun.

Therefore I hereby announce that I will "host" a CR themed ride on 27 May, starting at 10:00 a.m. from Fort Monmouth NJ, in scenic Monmouth County. The ride will be about 25 miles long, passing through many upscale neighborhoods, sea shore vistas, past Monmouth Park Race Track and down tree shadowed roads. Terrain is mostly flat, with a smattering of highway overpass type hills. In other words, fixed gear friendly, although I will be riding a multispeed bike. No one gets dropped, and the ride leader is slower than winter in Chicago. Apres ride will be ultra informal: either patronizing a local caravansary or ordering up some pizzas at my place depending on the wishes of the group.

Starting point will be the north parking lot of Gibbs Hall/Sun Eagles GC, Fort Monmouth NJ, about 3 miles from exit 105 on the Garden State Parkway. Directions: Exit GSP at exit 105 (eastbound on State Highway 36), and shift/merge immediately to the right for the NJ style cloverleaf left turn NB onto Hope Road. (And when I say immediately, I mean IMMEDIATELY!. The turn comes up RIGHT NOW after you exit the GSP.) Go north on Hope Road two or three lights to Tinton Ave (you will see Sun Eagles GC on your right as you approach Tinton). Turn right, then take the next right into Gibbs Hall/Suneagles GC, and meet in the parking lot right at that entrance. For those with GPS or who want to use Mapquest, my quarters in Sun Eagles GC are located at 23 Megill Circle, Eatontown NJ 07724. Ride leader's cell phone is (816) 838-9721. Fine Vintage lugged steel is encouraged, but all are welcome. Negotiations are ongoing to make this a BVVW sanctioned event, with sponsorship by that multi-planetary conglomerate G.S. Pergolizzi. Email me with any questions.

Cirque is coming! Make sure to road test that bike you're throwing together before some embarassing mechanical failure in Greensboro causes you shame and humiliation. Please RSVP so I know how many to expect. Ciao.
