I happened on a lovely set of Mephisto rims and would like a brief history or other commentary on these and their relative merits. Best of all, they are in a 40/32 drilling so they'll be mated with an equally attractive set of Resilion hubs. I've never had a set of wood-filled rims before and would like to know if there are any cautionary tales regarding care and use. They'll be on a '46 Bates Vegrandis fitted with mudguards but are unlikely to be used intentionally in the wet.
Any suggestions on what spokes to use for the wheel builds would also be welcomed. Not sure what the previous lacing pattern was on the hubs but will match. Despite being lumpier than I should be, I ride light and don't bust up wheels.
I checked the archives but found precious little about these.
While I'm asking questions, are there any US suppliers of modern tubular rims with silver or polished finish in 40/32 drilling for some of the other 40/32 hub pairs that I need to turn into wheels?
Many thanks,
Charlie
