Subject: [CR]Wide or narrow drops and a bit on handlebar wrapping

There has been much "scientific" discussion of things like lung capacity etc. of late, but I'll bet most folks who like wide drops like I use have a more simple reason for using them. Comfort. I get a crick between my shoulder blades on long rides when using a too narrow bar. I also like the feeling of increased control I get when riding out of the saddle with wider bars. Seems like the additional leverage gives me a steadier ride while standing and pedaling. All a matter of individual preference ultimately and one would, of course, do well to try a bit of size variation and make up one's mind from their actual experiences...in the end words are mere approximations in matters like these. On bar wrapping...I am sure no authority, but I have a very good friend who is and I suck up shamelessly to get mine wrapped better than I am capable of doing. He gripes a little, but I know that he really enjoys doing it and if he is not happy with his own results will insist that I bring the bike back in the Winter when he can re-do it to his satisfaction. Nice to have friends, huh? A little Pizza can go a long way (hear that John?) Many have seen the photo series on Wool Jersey I have of my friend Bill demonstrating wrapping with leather wrap. The technique is not all that different...just a bit more demanding. I especially like the little triangle he ends up with on the brake levers. Those who haven't seen it and seek info on bar wrapping might want to look at it. http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/Leather-Bar-Wrapping
