For your friend: Also try Rando Cycles, two shops together, one a bike shop and the other a famebuilders shop. Easy to find and get to on the east side side of the cit y and near a metro stop--Castille Vincennes area is what I remember off-hand but it's in the book. The shop displays a vintange Routens that's in Jan Heine's book, and a Herse I think. They also have a lovely yellow tandem that took me a while to examine. Gilles B. bags, etc.
Take care when finding the Alex Singer Shop because there is an Avenue Victoire Hugo that is the wrong one in the north and just outside of Paris proper. Search the archives for the right V.Hugo avenue--I think I asked this question after failing to find it once and it is well answered in the archives.
Spend time glancing over parked cycles anywhere you are in the city because there are classic gems. On a recent trip I remember seeing lots of gorgeous , stylishly dressed, women riding classic mixtes in the center of town.
