Ted,
I started to compile a database with all information I can gather on Legnano's age, type and serial number. I don't have the file available from where I'm writing this message, but I can already 'release' some of my findings. - Legnano type Roma Olimpiade appear to have the serial number printed like it appears on your bike, while the 'Gran Premio' serial number is printed vertically on the drive side of the seat tube. - Almost all serial numbers of Gran Premio and Roma (Olimpiade) start with 2 characters of which the first one is mostly E. I found one Roma (pre-Olimpiade) starting with C. Yours is the second one I know starting with F (the other one is my own Roma Olimpiade, starting with FF). It is tempting to interprete the first 2 characters as a key for the construction year, where FA would stand for '61. But this doesn't match the information I have for a few bikes of which the age is more or less known. Further, I also encountered SN starting with something like EP (don't remember exactly), which does not work either. So the 'key' to the serial numbers is still a mistery to me. - Recently there was a Legnano Gran Premio for sale in e-bay with serial number '10', without any characters preceding. If I find the time next week I'll give more detailed information on this list.
Cheers
Rita
