I have had a handful of used Brooks and other maker's saddles that have rails splayed wider than the clamping width. It can be a pain installing a saddle in this condition. A toeclip strap is them handy to cinch the steel rails together until the clamp is tightened. Emanuel is fitting a modern ti railed Swallow so it'd seem surprising if this was the malady barring the unlikely chance that he has a narrow rail seatpin.

I really like toe straps.
