Subject: [CR]shoe cleat wedges

Little plastic wedges designed to fit between shoes and shoe cleats have been on the market for some while. They have been sold under various names and I believe are now called "Le Wedge".

My question is about when wedges were first used with cycling shoes and cleats to adjust for fit. Were these used at all in the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's? When was the first use? Does anyone know more about their development and usage.
