Devious Ray, devious. I tried to explain away my latest two bikes as two she just hadn't seen for a while. Nothing doing. Even though I have WAY more than 10 bikes, she seems to instantly recognize a new one. Which must mean she remembers what I have better than I do.

You just reminded me of an incident that I had back in the days when you found your bikes through the classifieds, and getting a photo of a prospective bike was an ordeal. I had talked over the phone with a guy who advertised in the Velonews classifieds as having a large inventory of used vntage Campy parts. I told him I definitely wanted something he had, but that I would have to call him back to consumate the deal. I guess I didn't call him back quick enough because a couple of days later I came home from work and my wife informed me, in a tone of dismay, that "there is a message on the answering machine from some guy saying you were supposed to buy some bike parts from him." She followed that up with "Are you really buying more bike parts?" Needless to say, I was in a tight spot, having just promised my wife a few days earlier, that I wasn't going to buy any more bike stuff for a while. I had no choice but to lie to her again.

After I wriggled out of that situation, I called the guy back and told him very nicely that YOU JUST DON'T DO THAT! I explained to him the dynamics of buying stuff when one is not single. He was obviously single, and I guess all his friends were single too, because he had no clue.

Of course, I still bought the part from him.

I would like to object to that point of view. I feel it's out of place in this forum. What if our spouses or significant others might accidentally read that? Just simply not appropriate!!!!!

In keeping with my commitment to limit my collection to no more than 10 bikes , I put my Medici on the block after I recently bought a 1986 De Rosa on eBay. Thanks to the great feedback I received about my Medici listing, I decided to use a similar format for my new De Rosa photo album. Instead of an album with only photos, for the De Rosa I made a page with photos and comments. For those of you who would rather enjoy the photos without the distraction of my obsessive and mind-numbing commentary, I also created a traditional photo-only album, which you can access at the beginning of the De Rosa photo page. Here is the link:

By the way, the Medici is going to France. Très intéressant, non?
