I first saw the 700c rims in Houston, in the mid-1960s. Someone, perhaps a motorcycle dealer, was trying to sell Astra bikes - I believe they were low-end Motobecanes, semi-lugless - so equipped. None of us thought that the "odd" tire size would sell. Yes, we were racing on tubulars back then, but never would have considered those Rigida (?) wired-ons as a training alternative. I guess we were right about future sales -- for a decade or so.
