Wow, what a day. I'm tired, so I'll just say that it was wonderful. The presentations were all informative and entertaining. The banquet was also great. Ted Ernst is the honeree as the winner of the Classic Rendezvous Vintage Bicycle Award for 2006 and he was also the guest speaker. Ted gave a great presentation that captured his personal life and experiences in cycling and also the history of cycling during the 1930s-1980s. I wish I had his energy, amazing. Perhaps someone else will elaborate on the seminars and all. Lou Deeter, on assignment in Greensboro NC.
atta boy Lou, I second the comments.
The seminars were terrific. Our pal Pete Weigle and others stole the show. Pete in his understated manner gave us more background into the beginnings of Witcomb, and the evolution of his career and frames. John Barron as usual had his beautiful collection of Campy parts available. Dave Moulton shared his life experiences. It is not often that a frame builder with close to 50 years experience is available in a setting like Cirque.
Ted Ernst was obviously the star tonight. The guy was a bad ass bike racer and it showed. Ted told a story about a splinter from a board track finally working itself loose after 30 years in his leg. His racing and cycling back ground took him all over the world and provided him some great experiences and even some geopolitical observations that most of us can relate to. Ted has been a keeper of the flame, and is a most worthy recipient of the Mike Richardson award.
This was one of the best days of Cirque, and we owe it to Dale Brown. Attaboy Dale!
