Peter; Vade Mecums come up a few times a year on Ebay and in provate sales. I'm sure Len Ingram of the VCC would have a good record of exectly how many are on the register, but I'd be hesitant to use the word rare. It took me close to a year contacting everyone I know in the U.K. to come up with my 1955 Magnum Opus Phase II. I would consider that fairly rare, but not extremely. The word rare is used and misused all too often these days, especially on Ebay. Rare is my 1939 Trio, one of possibly only two surviving, or a Caminargent.

There is a nice little story with this Hetchins listing, worth reading even if you don't want the frame. I think that frame number must make it a mid 54 build. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Desirable-Rare-HETCHINS-VADE-MECUM-VIBRANT-Frame_W0 QQi temZ6635940194QQcategoryZ69825QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem . Not sure about how rare it is; there must be a limit to Hetchins rarity with 11,000 made.
