And he is just now learning of it!
My deepest apologies to John and his wife as somehow the award did not end up in my hands at the end and his nifty old path Mercian did in fact win the Best British bike award!
I will be sending that award to him but I do wish I could have presented it to him in person. Rats!
I have just posted some pics of his bike in some detail here:

So, once again, ever so sorry John. Thanks so much for coming and allowing us to share your ebullient spirit!

Just arrived home after driving 3400 miles round trip; 68 EMAILS! most from CR postings. FIRST, MANY MANY THANKS TO DALE BROWN, and his group. Once again WELL worth the trip. Got to meet SO many fine folks. I was VERY impressed with the the interest shown in my 1950 Mercian. I TRIED to present the bike in the mode that it would have been in, in that era, plus in many previous posts we had talked about the ROAD PATH machines of that day. To get the record straight, I did NOT win, DO I CARE??? NO.NO.NO. being there and being part of the whole show was WINNING to me. Ted Ernst, I got to meet him and shake his hand; that was WINNING. Riding my Mercian some 60 miles, was WINNING, sharing all the fun I had riding all these years, was WINNING, listening to the tech guys, learning even more was WINNING, seeing all those beautiful machines, thinking of the tales they could tell from previous owners, that was WINNING. So ONCE again, THANKS Dale for the best time I have had in a long time, John Crump, OldnotwiningbutwinningBrit, Parker Co.
