I'm no expert, but as I recall, the other difference between SR and NR bbs and pedals was the titanium spindles in both. I'm guessing the diameter and cone profile of the titanium spindles is different from the steel, and thus the change in bearing size. I think you'd have to change spindles along with the bearings. But someone who has spent a lot more time studying this stuff would know better.
