In the light of the current debate about the respective qualities of
various oversized tubes, it is interesting to read the gauges of the
tubes that Bill Hurlow chose when building the T-T frame now in Peter's
ownership.
The top tube with its 22/24 gauges is very light..and it would again be
interesting to know if the frame has a 1.1/8" top tube and whether the
frame is lugged or lugless.
Over to you Peter
The frame is indeed lugged - the very impressive WTB1 set. Top tube is
1".
There are some pics of the frame at
http://ntlworld.photobox.co.uk/album/thumbnails.html?c_album=1571123 ,
and
for those who have never seen it, a pic of the head lugs on Bill's own
frame, with his initials worked in. The previous owner has had my frame
refinished at some time, hence the single down tube transfer instead of
the
2 it would have had originally. Bill thinks the standard of the lug
lining
shows that it was probably re-enameled where it would have finished
originally, at Broma Art Enamellers at Romford. There is also a pic of
Bill
still wielding a brazing torch in his garden shed, and yes, that is a
mountain bike frame he is working on, being repaired for a friend.
