My girlfriend always used a USA made product (possibly not available in NZ) called "Goo Gone". It removes everything from candlewax, shoe polish, tree sap, to of course stickers, price labels, and glue. It indeed worked fine on some of my dried on bar tape... with a bit of coaxing from a soft nylon scouring pad.
~ However, just reading the label, it claims to be "Non Toxic" ... BUT, in another place it also states "Contains petroleum distillates. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Call physician immediately. Avoid prolonged contact with skin. Use in well ventilated area. Do not use near heat, sparks or flames." ...and, in yet another place it states "Harmful or fatal if swallowed. Combustible" Well, so much for America's sense of what is a "Non Toxic" product. I believe I'll go back to turpentine or mineral spirits for my projects... at least I KNOW they are potentially deadly, and they're cheap.
