I am considering a Claud Butler Olympic Sprint track frame, and have a few questions that I hope someone on the list might be able to answer. The current owner says he believes it is an early '70's vintage frame, and is 531 throughout. it has rather plain lugs and has been repainted, with new transfers, but it doesn't appear to have a head badge, or any holes from one. The only numbers on the frame are 65017 under the bottom bracket. The forkends (front and rear) have eyelets and it is drilled for brakes both front and rear. It appears to my casual investigation, that Claud Butler at some point went from being a manufacturer of some renown to a brand name applied to a wide range of off topic bikes. Can anyone shed some light on the actual vintage of the frame in question, whether an Olympic Sprint is in fact a 531 frame or some gaspipe model, and does it date from CB's storied past, or from their more recent production trying to capitalize on a once famous name?
Thanks,
