Subject: [CR]Live and Learn: Freewheeling a Sturmey TF

There was talk a while back about a 12-spline Sturmey Archer freewheel up for auction. The seller had it down for an ASC, but Hilary knew it to be a pre-war freewheel made specifically for the TF. I had been looking for one for a while, so was hot to trot. I won the bid and had a new toy. Finally had a chance to mount it this weekend. Fit perfectly, except for one tidbit I overlooked. A few minutes in Hadland and I realized that to use this thing you must have part #TF 124: a special lockring that allows for the extra thickness of the freewheel. Consequently, I'm S.O.L. But I'm going to be patient and maybe in a decade or so it might show up. In the meantime, will all you Sturmey O'Philes and especially those of you on the other side, keep a look out for such an animal? You can see a pic of it in the exploded view on page 92.

Thanks and the Quest continues,
