I'm no expert (a relative newbie at that), but I have a pair of 700c Mavic Module E2 rims with NR hubs that I purchased in 1983. I rode them at a weight of 190lbs. with 700x20 tires for 1000's of miles without any problems. They stayed true and performed very well on the rolling, winding, bumpy roads of Richland, MI. From my experience I would not call them fragile.
