Just out of town for a few days. I replied offlist, saying I think this was a European model, which might have been different from what appeared in Peugeot US catalogs. Marty mentioned surprise at 700C clinchers rather than 27". Does anyone know for sure if 27" clinchers were ever routinely used on bikes produced and sold in Europe? I'm guessing 27" was only for sale in the US and the British Empire.

Dear CR List Members,
I just aquired a 1970's vintage,red, Peugot 10 speed, with alloy fenders
and a steel rear rack.It was originally purchased on a U.S. Army base in
Germany (base exchange or post exchange).
It has 700C, steel, Rigida rims, with bolt on axels. Simplex black
plastic "delrin" rear derailler,Simplex front derailleur, and
black, plastic Simplex down tube shift levers.
Altenberger "SYNCHRON" sidepull brakes and a braze on for the front
generator and a front fender mounted light.Steel made in Germany pedals
(maybe not original) .All factory original except the "Schwinn" tires
and in really good condition.
I couldn't pass it up!
I know it is nothing special, but it is SO 1970'S BIKE BOOM!
It would be a comparable model to a GITANE HOSTELER, except this Peugot
only has a steel rear rack, otherwise a very similar bicycle to the
"HOSTELER".
It seems to me that Gitane and Peugot sold many of the comparable road
racing models on the low end of the scale but very few with racks and
fenders.
The Peugot I have is most likely one step up from the entry level
European models like the GITANE GRAN PRIX OR THE PEUGOT U0-8,but still
on the low end of things.
I have not seen many of these early 1970's bicycles with fenders back in
the early 1970's or now.
Does any one know the model NAME OR NUMBER OF the low end Peugot that I
have from the early 1970's.
I did a GOOGLE search and somehow ended up on JAMIE SWAN'S great
WEBSITE: http://www.centerportcycles.com (mapped) but no answer there, just a
great website with lots of good information and photos!
I wrote our resident FRANCOPHILE - Jerry Moos but no answer ( I hope
Jerry is all right)
Great job JAMIE SWAN!!!

Anyways nothing urgent, let me know if there is a website with old
Peugot catalogs or if someone remembers the model name or number that
would be great.THANKS!
I guess I could always call it a poor man's "RANDONNEUR".
