On June 6th 1950 at the Giro d'Italia, during the stage from Ferrare to Rimini, Robic had a terrible crash. He suffered a serious gash over his left eye - he remounted immediately, and with the aide of his friend Brulé was able to rejoin the peloton. But his suffering was intolerable, and fifty kilometers into the next day's stage he abandoned. Upon his arrival back in Paris Friday morning he was consoled by his wife, their two children, and his devoted friend Rondeaux, who had come to take care of him. During the afternoon they consulted a physician who diagnosed a fracture to the frontal. (From "But et Club" No.238, 12 June 1950).
