I returned home yesterday, following a 12 day tour de california coast, hopeing to find my bike all painted and ready for rebuilding to begin. But, to my horror, the painter informed me that during sandblasting one of the top tube cable guides disappeared and they were unsuccessful at recovery. Not being one to let this get me down, "Hey, not a problem. I'm sure I can find a cable guide for a 26 year old obscure French bike to braze on in a day, or maybe two." After being discovered by my wife sobbing in my beer and being severily beaten for such uncomely behavior I called a friend who buys recovered bicycles from the City of Los Angles in lots of 500. He's a little excentric, but a nice enough fellow, as he rebuilds the bikes and sells them for practically nothing to kids and saves anything with lugs for me to look at! So, I'm going to slog the 40 miles up there today and see what's in the candy store (He brought out a new shipment while I was gone :-) Wish me luck! I hope these guides were something rather common on many bikes of the time as braze ons supplied to builders by some vindor.
