I, too, have been successful most recently with the small flathead screwdriver method on a '78 chain with a stuck link. Interesting that the link that stuck was the one with the largest stamp on it, "480" or something like that.

I've had this situation occur, although with different brands of chain. Being too cheap to buy more chain tools, I have been successful by pushing the pin of the stiff link on alternating sides about a quarter turn with the chain tool. Sometimes this helps. When it doesn't, I place a flathead screwdriver blade in at 90 degrees to the stiff link, and twist the handle so as to lever the pinch open by a very small amount.
