Apologies if I am boring people, but I am still trying to establish a date for my Falcon San Remo Model 76. In all respects it looks like Jerry Moos's (featured on the amazing CR website) apart from details. The first I have already mentioned - mine has a rivetted Shimano bb cable guide, Jerry's has a Campag bolt on. Before going on I should mention that it was a distressed buy at a jumble. The frame had been repainted red and was missing lots of that colour due to the underlying chrome. Investigation revealed azure blue in the head tube and bb, correct for a team replica Model 76. The forks and drop outs are just like Jerry's. It was sold with a Mavic stem, GB bars, Mafac side pull brakes, Campag Rally rd, and Stronglight crankset and BB - the pre 1982 odd sized one. Originally fitted out for tubs, I have equipped it with 700C, Campag NR dr, the original Campag fd and a Record crank set. My archive info does not mention Mafac side pulls, nor Mavic stems and my numerous Falcon catalogues are annoyingly lacking dates! The best guide appears to be the featured Falcon team members, as I have a record of most of the years they supported racing. My best estimate is the same as Jerry's - 1972 - the same sloping fork crown (Cinelli?) and to all intents it is the same model. (If between 1968 and 1973 it is made in Barton - hence the interest. If later, Brigg, all of 6 miles away and definitely foreign parts - just kidding, but they are a little strange....) One final glitch was that the B17 saddle looked awful crooked when refitted. The nose is at about a 10 degree angle to the fore and aft position! Brute force has improved things but how does that amount of misalignment happen? I have replaced it with a Professional. The other major difference between mine and Jerry's is that it was not fitted with cool stainless fenders. Anyone know of a source? Otherwise I am considering restarting my time trial career on it as a retro statement..
