Yes, I do remember the term "bronze welded" back in the fifties when I lived in England and never thought anything of it, understanding it perfectly. It's only later that I learned that "welding" was actually the joining of two similar metals using a filler rod that's also the same metal, or close to it. But the British do have a unique language. What always bothered me, after spending four years in university to earn and engineering degree, was their calling a machinist or mechanic an "engineer". (Granted, there are lots of engineers who can't run a lathe or build an engine.)
