Don, The fender eyelets, the brake mounting holes and the year of manufacture should explain it all. I.e. it's either a road frame - meant for a Sturmey-Archer hub - or it's a "road-path" type bicycle. In either case, it was possibly the only vehicle the owner would have in his (or perhaps her) possession, and was meant to serve multiple purposes. Beyond the obvious, it was also supposed to provide a little status and pleasure for someone who didn't have lots of money to spend on other luxury goods. Cheers, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
