French stuff is from Jerry! It is my recollection that plenty of people used
TA rings with a three arm chainset but they also used an TA adapter. I had
Stronglight three arm steel cottered cranks because in the UK the five pin
cranks were only available in 170mm and I needed longer.
As I think I may have mentioned previously when the Stronglight 49D
cotterless cranks were introduced in the UK far more racers used them with
TA rings than Stronglight.

I wondered about that. My '52 Viking Path came with a Stronglight 49D equipped with an 1/8" TA. Was there a reason for using a TA over a Stronglight chainring? (Or did I miss the answer already, not having followed this thread) It's a good looking set up, but I inadvertantly knocked it out of whack. Anybody know a shade-tree means of straightening/flattening a an aluminum chainring?
