Subject: [CR]Question about drilling and countersinking

For my Molteni replica project, I decided to try my hand at reproducing the Nuovo Record ring seen on this exteme close-up:

That is Eddy by the way, or at least his feet. If anyone has a better pic of this ring, PLEASE let me know.

And here is the result of my newbie drilling effort:

Far from perfect, but still satisfying for a first effort, at least for me.

Anyway, as far as I can tell from the first photo, it looks like Eddy's ring had countersunk holes. Unfortunately, my attempts at countersinking have failed pretty miserably. My questions are:

- Is there a special drill bit for countersinking?

- Or do I simply use a larger drill bit? If so, how much larger? The holes in my ring were made with a 5/32 bit.

- Am I right to think that I absolutely need to use a drill press to achieve uniform countersinking? (I don't have one nor do I have access to one without buying one.)

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
