Being new to the list, I'm not sure if this is the place to show a 1973 Raleigh 3 speed. One could hardly call it "lightweight", as this "all steel" bicycle must weigh at least 50 pounds:-

Thanks for sharing your Raleigh ,what a change from the lightweights and great pictures as well ,well done!

I can remember the Raleighs upright and domestic bikes through the years both before and after the WW 2 . Always heavy but reliable and a favourite for the working man going to and fro to their place of work especially when the extra addition of a dynamo became available with battery fixed to the downtube. Many of these workers were tradesmen on the building trade, gas company fitters etc. and depended on these sturdy monsters to carry their heavy tool bags on both handle bar and rear carriers The chain guards tended to pick up all the rattles and road noises but they really did their job keeping the transmission in beautiful condition. I consider they should always be shared with the collectors/restorers along with the all too familiar popular lightweights we hear so much about!

There we go , keep up the good work and look to read further postings from you in the future.

Best wishes
