Howdy folks.
I built this up for my dad last year. I bought a newer Colnago as a
parts
donor for me and ended up tearing down the Fuso and building the Colnago
up
for my dad instead. This Fuso has a couple unique features that led me
to
contact Dave Moulton about it. It is about 58cm square, while regular
Fuso
geometry puts something like a 56cm top tube on a 58cm, and it has a
race
plate tab under the top tube. Dave said that based on the serial number
(2250) and those details that it was a Cal Poly Wheelmen team bike built
around 1990. Unfortunately it has been repainted so is not yellow and
green
any more. It does appear to have been a professional paint job and has
(I
think) all the correct decals. Mine and my dad's plan was to get it
repainted in the team colors and I have some e-mails from Dave with the
details of the original paint job. It is in good condition, but has a
bit
of corrosion (oddly enough) on the fork and rear triangle which are just
gloss black. I cleaned things up pretty well and touched it up with
Testors
which is a good match. It seems to have 126mm OLD rear spacing but was
apparently built to use early STI or Ergopower as it has the cable guide
loops on the sides of the lower head tube lug. It comes with a good but
not
perfect Campy headset, early Chorus I think, dropout adjusters and a
Sugino
seatpost binder bolt (should really be Campy). Here are a couple
pictures
from before I took it apart: http://tinypic.com/

P.S. I saved this message from Dan Kehew since it mentions the Cal Poly team bikes...

Dunno if it was the only school, but one of the Mechanical Engineering profs at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo did this. Bill Patterson? Heck, I should remember, for reasons that I fear have more to do with a human-powered helicopter than bicycles, but the same prof used frame design as a regular classroom project. Cal Poly's HPV tradition is pretty strong -- believe the main library has or is building a significant archive of HPV-related material.
On topic content: While I was at Cal Poly in the late '80s, the Cal Poly Wheelmen were riding FUSO bikes built for them by their sponsor, Dave Moulton. Anyone know of another college-level team with such a cool sponsorship?
