The Ebay text said the pedals were "balanced" Lyotards, so I think the blocks are holding the pedals in an easy toe-entry position. I don't recall that product, but very French to be sure!

\r?\n> What is with the aluminum blocks under the pedals? Are they a lame effort
\r?\n> to make them double-sided?
\r?\n>
\r?\n> And I'm surprised to see the bike equipped with suicide levers. They could
\r?\n> be original (they appear in Schwinn's 69 catalog) but I guess they were not
\r?\n> installed by the factory. They must have seemed like a good idea at the
\r?\n> time, since it wasn't yet widely known how useless they were.
\r?\n>
\r?\n> Is this a Carlton-built Pro?
