There are many questions concerning such matters as "Who built the bikes for Mr so-and-so?" that come back to the surface with regularity.

On such question is "Who built "Jacques Anquetil" bikes?" I know of at least five companies/builders who built frames either for Jacques himself to ride, or bikes that bore his name either during his time as a rider or after his retirement.

Howedver a sixth company has now surfaced, and it is one that I would never have suspected - JEUNET, of Dole, in the Doubs area of eastern France..

I had always viewed this builder in the same category as many others in France...that of a "regional" builder, building a wide range of bikes for all ages, all interests..some of them even top quality but whose aluminium foil stickers and contrasting lugged paint jobs never seemed to be seen outside the Doubs area. I know that some were exported to the States, but none reached to UK as far as I recall.

Now..in "Miroir de Cyclisme" No 92, dated Octoner 1967..I see a picture of none other than Jacques Anquetil, dressed in his BIC jersey and draped elegantly on a beautiful pearl light blue track bike, bedecked with a set of those foil stickers, bearing his name and portrait..in the process of breaking the world's hour record.

In the inside pages I found a half-page advert proclaiming "Un Exploit sans Precedent". it goes on, alongside a photo of "Maitre Jacques" to state that Ets JEUNET is the sole constructeur of the marques Jacques Anquetil, Roger Riviere, Raphael Geminiani, alongside the ranges of Captivante, and Jeunet.

So who knows..maybe you List members with your Captivante track irons are actually geting astride a rebadged Jacques Anquetil frame..perhaps THE Jacques Anquetil track iron!
