Interesting reading everyone's perspective on appearances. I try not to judge too much, although I have been one to mention to a rider that was a newbe that they might be more comfortable in riding shorts, shoes etc without being over bearing. Of course this is on longer rides usally.
For myself, other than the two Rauler jerseys that I purchased, all my shorts and jerserys are sponsor's from the mid '90s when I was racing mountain bikes. They work, they're comfortable and most of all I still fit in 'em.
And lastly someone said, "The latest "fashion" thing I've seen is to turn the rubber gripper hem at the bottom of shorts up. Beats me.......... Sorry, this isn't the latest fashion or fad. Gunnar Shogren taught me that trick, noticed I didn't say fashion, back in 1995 or so. I noticed he had his shorts rolled up and the rubber hem was showing and I asked him why. He told me, then I slapped myself in the head and said, Now why didn't I think of that. I always found the rubber hem very bothersome and irritating to the skin. Cotton tees are something I can't deal with either for comfort reasons. They new materials do help you stay cooler. Speedos are definitely are out on a bike or in a pool.
