I have a hard bound coffee table book coming out next week at Interbike: Cycling's Golden Age. It showcases images and rider profiles of road racing from post WWII through the end of the Anquetil era. To the best of my knowledge, the vast majority of the photos have either never been published or at the very least have not seen print in many, many years. The book also features images of original trophies, jerseys, and other race and rider swag from the time period. Every item in the book is from my collection. I was honored that Owen Mulholland wrote the text and Eddy Merckx wrote the foreword to the book.
Next Wednesday from 4-5pm, at Interbike, Eddy, Owen, my wife Shelly, and I will be signing copies of at the Velo News booth. 200 advance copies of the book will be sent by FedEx from the printer in Canada to Las Vegas for the show. The cost for the signed book at the show will be $50. Velo News is not taking mail orders for the shows, its strictly on site sales only. In the event there are unsold signed copies of the book, they will make them available for $100 after the show. No clue if 2 books will sale at Interbike or all of them will be gone by noon on Wednesday.
I'm looking forward to seeing the completed book for the first time myself at Interbike. After 900+ hours of work by my wife and I on this project, plus a whole lot more additional time by Owen and the book designers and editors has finally produced a product. I can't imagine how some people are able to do this type of book all on their own!
If you don't need signed copies of the book, they will be available for shipment beginning late October from several outlets including Velo Gear and Amazon. Borders has also bought a good slug of them if you wish to buy it at a bricks and mortar bookshop.
Finally, if you want all the bells and whistles, there will be a special limited edition of the book that will be availble in early November. It is geared for the hard-core fan of this special time period and will be signed, fitted with a custom box, and will include a unique original vintage photograph of one of the riders from the book. Price of those books will start around $100 and go up from there based on the specific original photo included in the box set. If you have interest in the limited edition version, drop me a line off list and I will add your name.
