I'm in the process of cleaning up the PX-10, and there is a lot of old, sticky grease in there. In the bearing race of the rear derailleur pulley I worked on today, the coating was almost impossible to remove with the solvent I have been using.

My days of pouring out Coleman White Gas to clean bicycle parts is over, but some of the more environmentally friendly solvents just don't seem to do the job. What are some of the favorite solvents and cleaners out there? (I've been cleaning the frame with Citrasolv window cleaner because that's what's under the sink).

And what do you use to protect old finishes? Furniture wax? Clear coat in a spray can? Automotive wax? As a beekeeper, I wish there was a way I could put all my beeswax to work.
