I haven't received my new Italian bottom bracket yet, but it is on it's way. How seriously recommended is dragging this bike to a shop to have the bb threads chased and the shell faced? I tried putting the old one back in but I have no way of knowing if the difficulty I have in threading it is caused by the slight pitting in the old cups or by something in the bb. I don't so much mind the cost , but I really like knowing that this one project has been under my control completely since inception (paint touch up, wheel building, cone and cup polishing, bearings, cabling, parts sourcing, aluminum parts polishing. The bottom bracket threads look clean and to the eye everything else looks ok too. But then again, I'm no expert.
Garth Libre in Miami Fl. feeling silly because I think this is an issue which pros know by instinct and find bothersome to even try to explain what they know by now in their DNA.
