Subject: [CR]Was Witcomb..now Holland..again

What a strange coincidence! Earlier in the week we were trying to sort out the mystery surrounding a JA Holland bike, and it was finally decided, and proven by the owner, that the bike was in fact made by Jack Holland of Wolverhampton. There are very few of these bikes around in general usage and, although I knew of the builder, I had never actually seen one of his frames until I bought a damaged one earlier this year. During the investigation, Griff King Spooner mentioned the former bike shop of J Holland, in South London. This evening having read the various contributions about Barrie Witcomb's activities, the Witcomb Saxon-lookalike etc, I decided to revisit the CR Witcomb site and then lcicked on to the tab for the new site. Under one of the headings on the site, possibly something such as" bikes seen at Witcomb's" there are photos of....yes...a J&C HOLLAND frame, built at the Old Kent Road shop. It differs enormously from the Wolverhampton frame in being a bronze-welded lugless frame instead of a lugged one. From what can be seen in the photos the "London "Hollands were also very competent builders.
