A very easy way to identify many eBay scam attempts is to look for your registered eBay user name in the message. Legitimate eBay messages will always include this; scam emails will often claim to include it, but unless you actually see your user name clearly stated in the message, it is more than likely to be a scam.

Another way to check is to log into eBay (*NOT* through any link provided in the suspicious message, but by typing "www.ebay.com" in your browser and logging in that way) and if the message does not appear in the Messages section of your My eBay page, you can safely regard it as a scam.
