Subject: [CR]AW: An interesting Cinelli story!

Hi Jan and Mark, I have a probably mid 50ies Cinelli B Model which came to me with exact that outfit - Mafac Dural forge (Racer) brakes and Universal levers. Until that pciture I alwasy thought somebody had "upgraded" the bike since I believed It should have come with Universal calipers as well. Another point for this is, that the steerer-tube length was measured for the additional 2mm for the centerpull-bracket. When I removed it I had to add one shim in order to adjust it properly, otherwise the steerertube was too long. I am not so sure anymore. Does anybody else took notice of such a combination on a SC or a B model? Was it common?

Great photo! The brakes sure look like Mafacs. BTW, the model always was called RACER, but only in the late 1960s/early 1970s did Mafac begin to put the model names on their brakes...

I heard from somebody else that in the late 1950s/early 1960s, Cinelli recommended the Mafac Racer brakes...

"So, are those Mafac Dural Forge brakes with Universal levers?"

Hi Mark,

The Cinelli's I imported in the mid-late 1950s had Weinmann 999 center pull brakes.
