With the upcoming L'Eroica and Velo Rendezvous sending people scurrying
for information on taking their (always) on topic 2 wheeled babies on
the plane with them, I was pleased to see an article in today's Los
Angeles Times travel section on the ins and outs of taking bikes along.
Included were some sources of appropriate cases. The article can be

I just got back from completing the South Bay Wheelman's Palos Verdes Hillclimb Time Trial. I represented the vintage crowd by having the only non-index shifted bike with my '75 Condor. I almost had the only steel bike, but someone showed up with a tig-welded Tesch. At 4.5 miles I was suffering, having just made the turn onto the steepest section of the course, and a car goes by with Ted Ernst leaning out the window, yelling encouragement. Like a shot of oxygen! I finished the 6 mile course with ~1200' elevation gain in 27:34. Not the slowest. Fastest today was 22 something, slowest in the 30's, but I've heard the course record is 17 and change by Tinker Juarez. I can't even imagine pedaling that fast uphill. Anyone who wants to try, we can make it an extension of the Thursday Marina Del Rey - PV ride during VR-6.
