Hi Crew,
I happened upon a rather interesting bike before Xmas and have only just
brought it home. At a glance it would appear to be a curly Hetchins
hellenic style of frame...nice.... but, its not. Pictures here at my
Yahoo site
http://au.pg.photos.yahoo.com/
Interesting features are:
top mount seat tube shifters (aero style) ala early 80s,
Curly stays with short campy drop-outs.
Seat stay arrangement 'hellenic' style or for the Colnago-istas -
'Equilateral' style. Hetchins used proper lugs to join to frame tubing -
this one a direct braze at top and posts where it meets the seat tube.
British thread BB
seat clamp threaded one side......a bit British - also check the rear
derailleur cable stop
A common lug shape theme of a 'wiggle' even for the bidon braze-ons and
main lugs and BB cut-out as well.
Clamp on F der.
IC fork crown
'Beautiful' pearl/mica colored champagne pink paint with no chrome.
Frame quite light in weight considering the size and no number stamping.
I would like to know what make of 'beastie' this is. I have shown it to
a few friends and they have only told me its not a Hetchins.......I
know.....but what is it?
I know a lot will dislike this frame, mixing all things good about
Hetchins into an early 80s hotchpotch of style, fad, and then painting
it that color, but I know there are some crazies out there that will
fall in love with this..as only a mother can love... and have their own
curly stayed steel frame to slingshot them down to their local pharmacy.
