Winter Mountain Biking, 1939

Raphaël Dulac may have been unique among cyclists in the 1930s. He liked to ride the high mountains. Not the high mountain roads, but the High Mountains. In winter. Tired of avoiding skiers and their instructors, Mr. Dulac hired a guide and headed for the high passes, away from the ski slopes. Seen here in the alps, riding up the Rhême-Golette glacier (left - alt. 3120 meters) and ascending the Gebroula glacier (right - 3448 meters), the 58-year-old cyclist has found the serenity and solitude he desires.

Note the use of full fenders, derailleurs, and generator lights.

So... who's gonna be the first to organize a CR expedition to the top of a glacier?
