or perhaps the crankset is a replacement for a (perhaps) stock single chainset, and whoever replaced it swapped the chainwheels to get better chainline?

ray said he has the original alloy guard for the chainwheel - if this is what i think it is, its an alloy disc that would be mounted where the small chainwheel is. perhaps since this is removed, some former owner saw fit to fill out the resulting space on the chainwheel bolt with a chainwheel...

most of the duravias ive seen pics of, like the mecadurals and avaics as well, seem to be single-chainwheel town bikes and light tourers...
