Rick Garni asked about the NAHBS in San Jose:

Anyone going this weekend?

Rick,

I'm going but not showing at a booth. I'll be happy to meet with any CR folks. If anyone is thinking about taking my framebuilding classes, this would be an excellent time to talk to me. Friday at noon I give the painting seminar and sometime there is a group picture of those involved with the charity bike project. I've painted 4 frames that will be on display there - 2 for Dave Bohm and 2 for Jonny Cycles. Dave is bringing an Orange Crush (as in the soft drink) themed MTB frame. He extended the down tube lug design with an orange and the words "crush". We painted the primary color of the frame an orange pearl with a white pearl head and seat tube with a candy over green pearl separating strip as well as the leaf and words. It has a sterling silver relief cut out head badge. That frame should catch some attention. He also spent a lot of time engineering a stainless steel lugged S&S tandem. He produced a matte finish on the lugs which we masked off and chose a chameleon magenta to gold color shifting paint that represents his state of Arizona. Both of these frames have special ss dropouts for Rohloff hubs. I'm sure that bike will also get a lot of looks for both it's appearance and it's construction.

The cyclo cross Jonny Cycles frame is charcoal gray with special red accents. That color was created by painting a candy red (a translucent color) over a bright red. It is an asymmetrical pattern with a strips and a star on one side and Chinese characters on the seat tube. His frames have a stainless steel star brazed on as a head badge. It is a kind of classic/contemporary design. The other is a candy cobalt blue track frame with an unusual brake bridge and a star cut out of the dropouts. His down tube decals are like the style from before the '60's with the lettering on top rather than the sides of the down tube. They are in a lighter blue color to contrast with the darker blue main color. These frames don't jar you to attention but can be really appreciated when looking closely at the detail. Jon won best track bike last year. I was admiring them in my shop before they took them away with only hours left now to build them into complete bicycles.

Looking forward to meeting those that are going. Be sure and say hi when you read my name on my badge. Knowing what Dave and Jon are bringing makes me think others will be also bringing the "A" game stuff.
