Steven Sheffield wrote <Groene Leeuw was the top-end brand coming out of bicycle manufacturer De Kimpe, which was based in Deinze. Albert De Kimpe, presumably one of the family that owned the brand was a direceur Sportiv/team manager for around forty years. He managed among others Brik Schotte, Benoni Beyhet (sic) and Claude Criquelion (that's three world champions) and Sylvere Maes at the end of his career. in the early seventies the team was sponsored by Watneys which is definitely an english beer. You will see their red barrel trademark on the jerseys. Some years they has Maes, a belgian beer, on the jerseys as well. One website lists De Kimpe as the sixth most successful directeur sportiv of all time. However they have a seperate list for team managers which is confusing. For perspective Johan Bruyneel is 39th in the D.S. list. Ray green, Harrow, Middlesex
