On my '71 NR triple, the small-ring attachment bolts are threaded, not drilled thru, into the crank arms. Also, the arm flutes are shorter so drilling a double would necessitate drilling into the flute. This plus needing a triple spindle would point me toward simply getting a factory triple to begin with, albiet prob not a NR.
