I agree with you. I wonder if that guy in Pasadena has ever heard of a "diamond in the rough?"
I once excavated--yes that's right, dug up from the Earth--an old Simplex LJ-23 front derailleur from the grounds of a 100+ year old shop. Still had the Simplex badge--cleaned up rather nicely!
